Life Before KickStart
How was your body before Trevor Kashey Nutrition?
I was overweight with too little muscle.
How did that (state of being) make you feel?
I was tired all the time no matter how much I slept. I needed a nap most days, especially after lunch. It was annoying to tie my shoes.
Was there anything you were unable to do that you wish you could have done?
Yes, but unrelated to excess weight. Mostly, everything felt like a chore.
During that time, how did your current state of being affect those around you?
I work from home, so I spend most of my time alone. I didn’t notice anything unusual or negative in the few people I did interact with.
The Moment Everything Changed
How did you hear about Trevor Kashey Nutrition?
On the Huberman Lab podcast, Peter Attia said “The Comfort Crisis” was his most gifted book, so I read it. Michael Easter described his interaction with Dr. Kashey, including in the acknowledgements “Trevor Kashey (x10)”. I found the Coffee with Dr. Kashey podcast, listened to all available episodes, then found the TKN website.
What were your doubts and fears before starting the program?
$4k is a lot of money to lose. Scoring 100 % seemed like a big risk. I didn’t know if I would be able to make the time for the course; I have a poor track record. I felt like my state at the time was hopeless, and I was unfixable.
What made you say YES anyway?
I kept replaying Dr. Kashey’s quote from “The Comfort Crisis”: “I was taking relatively fit people and turning them into absolute freaks.” In his podcast, he sounded like he knew what he was talking about. His message was counter to most of what I have read or heard. I have been curious about REBT for a while and thought this would be a good opportunity to experience it. I felt like my life was spiraling downward with no way to stop it. KickStart seemed like my best bet. The chance to get a full refund for successful completion was too good to pass up.
Life After KickStart
Where is your body/mind now?
I have lost about 15 lbs and 5 inches around my waist. I feel lighter. I have more energy. I’m significantly less tired throughout the day. I can focus at work for longer. A few weeks ago I noticed I was suddenly calmer for no apparent reason. My blood pressure is the lowest I have seen it. I am less pessimistic in general;I no longer identify with it.
How does that make you feel?
I feel calmer, more focused, like I have been made aware of tools I can use to solve most of my problems over time. I’m nervous that they will slip away if I don’t make a deliberate effort to practice them, so I’m glad I’m continuing on to CNP.
What are you able to do now that you were not able to do before (mentally, emotionally, or physically)?
I am able to focus at work longer than before. I am physically stronger, thanks to OneBody. I can keep ice cream in the freezer and chocolate in the pantry without fear of bingeing. When bad things happen I can keep from reacting explosively.
The Ripple Effect
What positive impact did that have on others around you that you might not have expected?
I live alone and work remotely, so I seldom have much opportunity to interact with others outside of meetings.
Thom’s Words to You
What would you tell someone who is reading this right now and is unsure about taking the next step?
TKN will help you discover your own operating instructions. The course uses food and activity to convey and practice tools and skills, but you can apply them to any area of your life that you want to improve. You learn how to stop getting in your own way and holding yourself back. You learn how to become the person it takes to have what you want.
