Life Before KickStart
How was your body before Trevor Kashey Nutrition?
When I started Kickstart I was suffering from acute ‘Dad Bod’ after five years of neglect; COVID, two kids, job changes, and injuries left me with some fabulous love handles and an out of shape body. Long gone were the days of hiking 14ers, running halfies, and general fitness.
How did that (state of being) make you feel?
In a word, I felt like a schlub. Just a doughy average dude in the suburbs, resigned to an average life.
Was there anything you were unable to do that you wish you could have done?
Running was a real sore point; a thing I really missed. It was part injury and part inaction that kept me from getting back to it. I had given up on it. I used to run all the time. It was like meditating for me. If I had a bad day I’d grab my shoes and head out the door to blow off steam.
During that time, how did your current state of being affect those around you?
I was definitely grumpier, short tempered, and less likely to want to do anything active.
The Moment Everything Changed
How did you hear about Trevor Kashey Nutrition?
A podcast.
What were your doubts and fears before starting the program?
The biggest fear was: Will this even work? Is it worth the time and energy? What will happen after it’s over, can I keep the train on the tracks?
What made you say YES anyway?
This was the third year in a row that I’d called in to talk about the program. I figured that if I’m still interested, then it’s a sign that I should probably just do the damn thing.
Life After KickStart
Where is your body/mind now?
I’m in a really good spot now. The ‘me’ in the mirror looks like it used to – better even. I’m sure my wife is tired of hearing about “my day of food”; however, she’s super supportive because of how she sees me acting now.
How does that make you feel?
Like an aspiring fitness model. It feels really good. I’ve done some fasting and a keto diet here and there. Nutrition wasn’t something I’d focused on in the past, so now, with fitness locked down, it feels like I’m the captain of the ship again.
What are you able to do now that you were not able to do before (mentally, emotionally, or physically)?
Emotionally I feel like I have better emotional regulation. Physically, I look so much better, plus pull-ups and running both feel great again.
The Ripple Effect
What positive impact did that have on others around you that you might not have expected?
My affiliations are doing more, or at least questioning what it is that they’re doing. Even when I eat with someone that’s hoovering up their plate I stay chill and eat at my own pace and I notice that they slow down as well. My wife joined a program and started working out more as well.
JC’s Words to You
What would you tell someone who is reading this right now and is unsure about taking the next step?
If you don’t like what’s going on or what life is like right now and it’s tied to food (and you’re ready to do something about it)…
This is it.
Don’t put it off.
It’s worth it.
YOU’RE worth it.
