Audrey’s KickStart Journey

Before joining the program, Audrey was a marathon runner who felt frustrated by a lack of progress and a habit of emotional eating. Despite a broken femur mid-program, she shifted her mindset to "eat on purpose," losing over 15 pounds and gaining a newfound sense of control over her choices. Now, Audrey lives with proactive purpose, inspiring her whole family to make healthier decisions alongside her.

Life Before KickStart

How was your body before Trevor Kashey Nutrition?
My body was in pretty good shape prior to the KickStart program. I ran a marathon back in October. Yet, I had still had inches that I wanted to lose. I wanted to be able to run and keep my heart rate at a more reasonable level. I wanted to focus on making better food choices.

How did that (state of being) make you feel?
It made me feel frustrated that I couldn’t run faster without my heart rate not skyrocketing. I was also frustrated with my weight and wanted to look slimmer and more fit.

Was there anything you were unable to do that you wish you could have done?
I needed to change some of my eating habits. If I was feeling sad, depressed or anxious, I would reach for a piece of chocolate in the pantry.

During that time, how did your current state of being affect those around you?
I don’t think my current state of being at that time affected those around me as much as it affected me.

The Moment Everything Changed

How did you hear about Trevor Kashey Nutrition?
My husband introduced me to Dr. Kashey. We listened to a few podcasts from Dr. Kashey while on a road trip. My husband was the one who had researched TKN and asked if I wanted to do the program with him.

What were your doubts and fears before starting the program?
One fear is that the program requirements would take a ton of time. I had also hoped for significant changes but was skeptical that they would happen in just 12 weeks.

What made you say YES anyway?
I said yes anyway because I was committed to completing the program with my husband.

Life After KickStart

Where is your body/mind now?
Now, I’ve lost over 15 pounds and can see the difference in my photos! I am gathering data by tracking my food intake daily and haven’t missed a day in 12 weeks. I work hard to meet my protein goal. I eat with purpose and on purpose. I don’t snag food like I sometimes used to. I don’t go to the pantry anymore looking for some “comfort chocolate.” I set weekly goals for things I want to improve upon. I make an effort to get more sleep and reduce home stress.

How does that make you feel?
I feel amazing!! I am so much more aware of the things I do and why I do them. I feel like I’ve been able to have control over the choices that I make. I feel like I’m reaching toward doing good stuff instead of sabotaging myself.

What are you able to do now that you were not able to do before (mentally, emotionally, or physically)?
Now, I’m able to think about why I’m making a decision by enlarging the space in between the stimulus and the response. I’m able to use distraction techniques to help me deter choices that wouldn’t help me in that moment. I feel good about focusing on the things I can control instead of dwelling on the things I can’t control. Life happens, accidents happen and I certainly didn’t plan to break my femur. I could have chosen to quit TKN and give up all together but I didn’t. Even though I haven’t been able to exercise like I’m used to over the past 6 weeks, by monitoring my nutrition and working to reach my protein and calorie goal, I’ve still lost weight!

The Ripple Effect

What positive impact did that have on others around you that you might not have expected?
Our children have been watching us and they are thinking more about their food choices. I don’t buy many processed foods so when they need a snack they grab some fruit, veggies, or a protein snack instead. My family has been able to do a lot for me during this healing process. Our kids have been so good to do the dishes, help make meals, go grocery shopping or run errands. They’ve had to step it up and it’s been great to see them fill in the gaps of helping around the house for me.

What would you tell someone who is reading this right now and is unsure about taking the next step?
Just do it! This program is totally worth the effort. You will learn more than you can even imagine about yourself, your behavior, why you make the choices that you make, how to deal with problems in life, how to be more proactive and live with purpose and on purpose.
